POSTECH’s Freshmen Orientation (OT) was held from Feb. 12 to Feb. 15. Continuing from last year, with the enthusiastic preparation of the Advisory Committee of the Freshmen Orientation, POSTECH warmly welcomed the incoming freshmen. On the first day, freshmen moved into the newly renovated RC dormitory and had their first meeting in the assigned sections. Following this, freshmen participated in the OT program, where they had a chance to get to know each other better, as well as receive safety training and RC dormitory life guidance.
On the second day the President and the Dean of Admissions gave a warm welcome speech to greet the new Postechians. Freshmen were introduced to various programs existing withing the Department of Mueunjae, while getting a deeper insight into life at POSTECH. After their introductory meeting, together with their volunteer mentors from each class, freshmen had an ice-breaking session prepared by Guide Teams. The second day ended with a special event where various clubs presented their activities.
On Feb. 14, with an early start, freshmen had a tour of POSCO. Considering the deep connection between POSTECH and POSCO, it was a worthy enterprise visit. Afterwards, under the theme of “Living Together”, freshmen received education on human rights, an introduction to counseling centers, and training to improve awareness of disabilities. As one of the essential advantages of POSTECH, freshmen also received lectures on scholarships, along with academic guidance that included explanations of English programs. Freshmen had the opportunity to visit and listen to introductions from the Student Union of POSTECH. From PBS to The POSTECH Times and APGC-Lab, various organizations introduced their work and activities. Nonetheless, the highlight of the day were the performances given by various clubs. From Cheero, the POSTECH cheerleading squad, to Bremen, Steeler, Blue Peanuts, Voces, Adlib, and OPCA, freshmen were blown away by the amazing performances.
On Feb. 15, special lectures about POSTECH’s history and spirit were held, aimed at fostering true Postechians. After that, mission tours gave time for collaboration with fellow students. The day ended with award ceremonies where prizes were presented to the winning teams from each section. It was a valuable opportunity to foster a sense of community. Last but not least, as part of the ritual closing event there was a sensational firework show. Moreover, with the welcome concert from Nanse Gum, it was a great opportunity for freshmen and current students to enjoy the beginning of the new semester. Though it was held only for four days, 2024 orientation was a truly enjoyable and enriching experience for freshmen to get to know the school better.
