Postechians go through changes and develop as time goes by, and so does POSTECH. Welcoming the fall semester, this article covers the changes in 2023 that can be of help to many Postechians’ daily lives on campus. Changes such as the Group Study Room (GSR) regulations in Tae-Joon Park Digital Library, the on-campus demand-response transportation service and the Undergraduate Study Abroad program.
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, there have been several modifications in POSTECH’s regulations. As a part of the social distancing regulation inside the campus, The GSR has been available for use under the conditions that at least one other user is accompanied. Since the state of the pandemic is easing up, regulations have returned to there original form. Starting from July 17, users of the GSR must now enter the POVIS ID’s of at least half of the number of maximum users in the GSR. Specifically, users can use large GSRs (3F GSR-I, GSR-O / 4F GSR-L) by entering the POVIS ID of 6 users, regardless of the maximum number of users.
Starting July 10, the Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) “Taboso” has started service on campus grounds. DRT is a transportation service that operates flexibly compared to existing public transportation. The service operates based on the reservation of the user. By collecting several users’ current locations and the destinations, the most efficient routes are calculated by the service and the vehicles are dispatched according to demand. The DRT’s stops are currently established in several locations on campus grounds and Pohang’s Techno Park. The service is accessible by using the application “Taboso”. The service was operated for free during the test operation but is now charging 1,300 KRW regardless of the distance.
There have also been a few changes to the Undergraduate Study Abroad program, starting from the 2024 spring semester. For example, a self-introduction essay is now included in the evaluation index, taking up 30% of the evaluation score. The evaluation index of the GPA and the language score now take up 35% each. In addition, the program’s scholarships are now integrated and operated by one scholarship (Nanum scholarship) and the scholarship benefit of Stanford IHP has been extended.
Many changes are made throughout the school year, especially since temporary measures were taken due to the prevalence of COVID-19. Many of these changes are being lifted one by one. POSTECH’s executives, participants of student organizations and faculty members will work hard throughout the year to bring convenience and a favorable life on campus for students. Frequent announcements posted on the Student Notice Board and Announcements board will keep Postechians informed.
