The Times Higher Education announced that POSTECH ranked third in the world and the first in Asia at THE’s World’s Best Small Universities 2019.

The Times Higher Education publishes world rankings every year for universities with fewer than 5,000 students. THE’s World’s Best Small Universities used the same indicators as THE’s World University Rankings: teaching, research, citations, industry income, and international outlook, but assessed only small universities because the characteristics of small universities, which prioritize quality over quantity and pursue customized education, are not properly reflected in the existing university evaluations. The average number of students at an institution in this ranking was about 2,713.

Ranked number one is Caltech in the USA, ranked second is École Polytechnique in France, and the third rank is held by POSTECH. This ranking is the highest among Asian universities. There is a view that POSTECH ranked third because it was particularly good in the achievements of industry-university cooperation compared to other universities.

The Times Higher Education introduced the university in the following way; “POSTECH was established in 1986 to provide advanced education for prospective engineers,” and praised the startup activation saying “the university also offers courses and opportunities for students to become entrepreneurs such as taking part in clubs, start-up prep groups, training on patents and leave of absence for creating new ventures.”
