The Max Planck Center on Atto-second Science, under Max Planck POSTECH Center for Complex Ma-terials, brought attosecond pulse to a reality. It is said that the achieve-ment is the first of its kind in Asia and third in the world after Germany and the United States.

Attosecond pulse is a wavelength of 13.7nm, and an attosecond is 10-18 seconds. The study of atto-scale time is important as the foundation to observe hyper-speed movements and the movement of electrons.

This achievement will contribute to the advancement of various fields such as dynamics, in the ability to measure the movements in atto-scale, and nanotechnology as in the capability to observe the molecular structures, as well as chemical engineering.

Professor Dong-Eon Kim, the head of the center, said, “Through the achievement of Max Planck center on Attosecond Science, Korea came to enter the cutting edge groups in the field of hyper-speed science.”
