A Step Closer to the Development of Medicine for Autism

The team of Professor Kim Kyong-tai (LIFE) succeeded in making an autistic model animal through a joint research project with Professor Choi Se-young (SNU). In addition, the natural substance 7,8-dihydroxyflavone was found to be effective in the treatment of autism. This joint study was presented in the Journal of Experimental Medicine, for its accomplishments in the treatment of autism using autistic model mice.Professor Kim Kyong-tai said, "This research is expected to be used in the development of autistic model mice as well as in research on how autism develops and in the development of autism treatment drugs." The research was carried out by the Rural Development Administration's next-generation bio-21 project, brain research program of National Research Foundation of Korea, and POSCO Green Science.
