Core Technology of Valley Control Developed

Recently, Professor Kim Jong-hwan (MSE) approached to advanced valley control through a group research project with UC Berkeley. Valley is a feature of electrons that was recently researched. This research was announced in Science Advances, a sub-brand of Science. It was expected that the nanometer thin-film is not suitable to use as an element. Prof. Kim’s research team divided positive charges and negative charges through a nanometer thin-film hetero structure to solve this problem. Through this method, the research team extended the life expectancy of valley to one micrometer second, which is about a million times the original life expectancy. Prof. Kim said “This result is meaningful in that it enhances basic science based on valley, using new nanometer-scale material source technology.”
