POSTECH rowing team achieved a striking accomplishment at the 43th Jang Bogo Flag National
Rowing Championship, the second division. The competition was held through Jul. 1 to 2, at West Nakdong River Rowing Arena in Busan. The POSTECH rowing team took second place and third place in the Women’s Collegiate Coxed Four (4+) and Men’s Collegiate Eights, respectively. It has been only one year since the POSTECH rowing team was established. There are a total of 13 university rowing teams in Korea, including Seoul National University, Yonsei University, and Korea University. Rowing as a sport is not popular in Korea, but the world’s leading universities have their rowing teams and competition between them is fierce. Especially, traditional rivalries between Harvard and Yale University, as well as Oxford and Cambridge University which have become famous annual events involving students and alumni from all over the world.
POSTECH created the rowing team last year based on the will of President Doh-Yeon Kim. He hopes Postechians will improve their stamina, leadership, and cooperation as future-leading global leaders through team sports like rowing. The POSTECH rowing team, consisting of 24 student members, previous national team member Eun-young Park coach, and team director Professor Mahn-joo Kim(CHEM), train every morning, starting at 5:30 A.M. The endless challenges and expectations for the POSTECH rowing team are much higher than before.
