Every department opened their booths in the 2017 festival. The motto of this year’s festival is #YouOnlyLiveOnce. The concepts of booths differed greatly from parodies of movies to TV programs. Along with the great diversity came a huge number of customers. All of the department booths opened on May 10 and 11 from 6 P.M. to 2 A.M. LIFE opened their booth on the 12th instead of 11th.
<GAUSSPASCAL>-MATH
The concept of MATH was spa. They have mashed two names, Gauss and Pascal, to show how it was related to spa. The last letter of Gauss and first two letters of Pascal makes spa. The people serving wore spa uniforms with a towel on their head. The menus they had were cheese kimchi pancake, corn cheese, mango cocktail, etc.
<H-bar>-PHYS
The bar name of PHYS came from the reduced Planck constant. The Planck constant, denoted h, is a physical constant that is the quantum of action. The reduced Planck constant is denoted ħ and pronounced as h-bar.
<Please Take Care of IME>-IME
The name of IME’s booth was also a parody of a TV program, 'Please Take Care of My Refrigerator.' To match with the program, chefs of the booth wore chef clothes and the head chef rang the bell every time a menu was ready to be served. IME held two events to encourage people to come to their booth. The first event was held before the booth was officially opened. The event was about naming the menus the chefs of IME came up with. The photos of the menus were uploaded to make it convenient for participants to come up with names. The names chosen were actually used during the festival and the people who came up with the names received coupons that could be used in the IME booth. IME also held a hashtag event of giving a 2,000 KRW discount if people take pictures with the prepared Instagram panel and upload them on their social media. The best menus were tteokbokki, bacon with enokitake, banana makgeolli, etc.
<Fantastic Electronic Dictionary and Where to Find them>-EE
The movie, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' was the motive of EE’s pub. The context of the movie is wizards looking for fantastic beasts. To parody this, EE designed their pub’s background as wizards of EE cooking food with the fantastic beasts they caught and brewing liquor themselves. The students were dressed in magician robes, just as the ones in Harry Potter sequel. Best-sold menu was kimchi pancake and corn cheese. For beverages, honey beer and Tankboy-soju, a drink that mixes soju with Korean ice cream Tankboy, received high compliments.
<Meat Playground>-CSE
CSE was the only department that follows their tradition and do not do a parody. They were famous for serving meat as their main menu. People get to order meat and cook them just as in regular Korean BBQ restaurants. This year, they set up a beam projector and showed plays of Pokawatch, the AI game for 2016 POSTECH-KAIST Science War.
