Professor Lee Sang-joon(ME)’s team developed a new desalination technology by imitating the mechanism of mangrove’s root. The technology could remove 96.5% of salt from seawater. Prof. Lee’s team covered positively and negatively charged substances on artificial PET membrane to make similar environment with the mangrove’s root. Prof. Lee said “This sustainable technology removed some problems like blockages at membranes and high energy costs during desalination system. It also has simpler production process than the former way.” The research was reported in international journal ACS Nano.
