On Dec. 2, POSTECH held its 30th anniversary celebration in the gym of POSTECH. Since POSTECH held its first graduation in 1991, a total of 17,627 students have graduated from POSTECH. Many of them are active as global leaders, working as professors, CEOs of venture companies, corporate executives, and so on. Also, the research influence of POSTECH is evaluated as 6th in the world (2015 QS World University Ranking Citations per faculty).
POSTECH started on Dec. 3, 1986 as the first research oriented university in Korea. In 1998, it was selected as Hong Kong Asia Week’s best science and technology university in Asia and in 2010 it was ranked 28th in THE TIMES World University Ranking. POSTECH was the first university in Korea to achieve this rank. Also, for three consecutive years (2012 to 2014) POSTECH was ranked as the world’s best university under 50 years old in the world
In the celebration, President Doh-yeon Kim, POSCO Chairman Kwon Oh-joon, Lee Kang-duk (mayor of Pohang), Soon-heung Chang (president of Handong Global University), Seung-hyun Moon (president of GIST), and Moo-young Jung (president of UNIST) participated.
President Doh-yeon Kim announced the direction of the university’s development which can open a new way of creating value based on research. The title of his address was “Preparing the next 30 years”.
For the next 30 years, POSTEH plans to go to a value-creating university that can directly contribute to development of Korea’s economy and society by realizing strong undergraduate education, remarkable research achievements, and active foundations.
