Rolling, the fastest and cheapest process of steel production, transforms steel into any form by utilizing its plasticity. The key point in this process is a model that predicts the strip profile and remaining resistance in steel. Professor Sang-moo Hwang was part of a research team that constructed a detailed modification model for the process, and published the paper in Steel Research, a prestige journal on iron and steel.
Previously, the inexactitude about the strip profile and remaining resistance in iron and steel interrupted the automation of the process. The research team compared predicted value, measured value, and calculated values to confirm the accuracy of the model.
