The team of Professor Tae-Woo Lee (MSE) developed solution-processed thermally-activated delayed-fluorescence organic light-emitting diodes (OLED). These diodes have similar luminous efficiency with original OLED, but can be produced more simply and cheaply. This technology was published in the prestigious journal Advanced Materials and evaluated as a superb paper, which is open to public through Layman’s Abstract.
The team used solvent that can control agglomerating phenomena of luminous bodies and made layer’s coating easy by improving thin-film’s uniformity and luminous efficiency. These diodes can be used in the display and lighting industries directly, and can be produced without rare earth heavy metal. Therefore, this technology is expected to open the cheap display market and be applied to the lighting industry widely.
