On Feb 29, all freshmen members officially marked the start of their carriers in POSTECH, celebrated by their parents and various faculties. Held from 11 A.M. to 11:50 A.M. at the auditorium, the matriculation ceremony began with opening proclamation and introduction of the guests. The attendees then saluted the national flag and sang the national anthem. Report on academic affairs and brief history of POSTECH were announced by Vice President of Academic Affairs. This year, a total of 828 new students (303 B.A., 146 M.S., 80 Ph. D, and 299 M.S.-Ph. D integrated program candidates) were cordially received for their entrance at POSTECH. After the representative of freshmen made an oath in front of President Doh-Yeon Kim, matriculation address by the president ensued. He mentioned that although primary and secondary education was significant, it was mandatory. In contrast, nobody ever forces students to do something in a university, meaning that everything is in students’ hands and responsibility. By quoting Hellen Keller’s axiom that “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision”, he urged that students have grand visions for their future. As there is a saying “Present is the best present”, President Kim told all freshmen to cherish every moment they live. Mr. Seok Woo Lee, the CEO of APGC delivered his speech for freshmen, talking about the time back in his matriculation and giving advice to freshmen in the university. After the speech, the third Domun Scholarship was conferred to Mr. Gwang-wook Go (CHEM 15) by President Kim. The ceremony ended as the freshmen sang of university song.
