A team of Professors Cho Kilwon (CSE) and Chung Yoonyoung (EE), and Kim Hyun ho (Ph.D. organic electronics laboratory) developed a flexible electronic device that can adhere and be taken off freely. They used graphene as a basis of a ubiquitous electronic device and successfully put it on tape. The result was published on Jul. 29 in Scientific Report.
Since previous electronic devices on plastic substrates break easily when they bend, they cannot easily be used in electronic devices that must change form. However, the newly developed device can be manipulated into any shape freely and it will maintain its electric ability and mechanical stability. Moreover, the process of making it is different and easy; the team used the dry process so that when it is made, the tape doesn’t melt. Prof. Cho said this device will be used in wearable devices, body-familiar devices, the internet, etc.
