All POSTECH undergraduates can participate in the Undergraduate Research Program (URP). Every year, many Postechians take part in URP and use it as a chance to experience researching what they want. Similarly, POSTECH’s Graduate Institute of Ferrous Technology (GIFT) offers the GIFT Research Internship Program. GIFT has an outstanding faculty and tries to provide chances to undergraduates to experience competitive experiments and research infrastructures.
To apply for this program, applicants must determine what laboratory they hope to participate in. Then they must fill out the required forms, such as the application form and letters of introduction, and send them along with their academic records to GIFT admissions staff by e-mail. Only undergraduate students are eligible, and they are free to apply any time during the semester.
The professor in charge of the laboratory reviews the application forms and selects an applicant through interviews. Once selected, 500,000 KRW is provided per four weeks for research and the program progresses for more than four weeks. During the program, participants can do research and experiments under certain professor and must submit a report of their work at the end of the program.
This program is expected to become a great opportunity for POSTECH undergraduates interested in GIFT and relevant fields. It can play a role as an incubator to attract potential students in that it provides extraordinary experiences and may increase interest in the field. Also, for students, it will provide a great experience to research and participate in areas of interest beyond their major.
