Many people have heard about the swimming suit that was modeled after shark’s skin. That is a prime example of science-applied sportswear. Modern sportswear was first produced in nineteen century in America. There are two types of sportswear: active sportswear designed to be worn while swimming, golfing, playing tennis, etc. and spectator sportswear developed as leisure wear in the 1920s. In the early the 1960s, fashion-oriented sportswear became popular. The modernization of sportswear began in the 1950s. Swimming suits were made of latex, parkas were made of water repellent cloth, and one-piece ski wear was made of cloth that has elasticity. Nylon eventually replaced latex for swimming suits because it is light, doesn’t easily wrinkle, and easy to dry. In the 1990s, numerous high-tech functionality materials were developed and even affected the results of competitions. .
Active sportswear should be modernized since it influences games. The materials of the active sportswear are divided into four types: cooling system, full body suit, extra-light with comfort fit, and micro pore structure. Cooling system sportswear focuses on ventilation of sweat. Coolmax, developed by Dupont, is a quick drying material commonly used for this purpose. Four channels direct sweat to the outside of the cloth. Also, as it has a 20% lager surface that absorbs liquid rapidly and increases the speed of evaporation, which makes a person feel pleasant. NIKE’s "Total 90" is also a kind of quick drying material.
Full body suits minimize air resistance. Swift Wear and full suits for swimmers are the two kinds of full body suits. Swift Wear considers the temperature of one’s skin and air mechanics. NIKE produced a special tracksuit that controls the temperature of a target body part by putting a darkish color on it and with a material that preserves temperature. Full suits for swimmers have two types. The first type is modeled after shark’s skin and the second type, called FS2, is modeled after a jet.
Extra-light with comfort fit is used for marathons and soccer, sports that require a lot of time. In 1996, gold shoes weighing 138 grams even had shoestrings designed to reduce air resistance for Michael Johnson. Because of his the running style, the manufacturer removed spikes and used a rigid sole, which actually decreased centiseconds per 200 meters.  It is known that the Korean soccer team used products made by zero distraction.
The Gore-tex series exemplifies micro pore structure. Gore-tex is used to create moisture permeability waterproof clothing obtained by gluing polytetrafluoroethylene film. Penetrating vapor, it doesn’t penetrate moisture, which consequentially helps to ensure change of weather.  Gore-tex is divided according to the number of layers. Generally, two-layer type and three-layer type are used. Devised to not require lining, the three-layer type is a high-quality light and durable material that quickly wicks away sweat.
