2014 POSTECH Commencement Ceremony

On Feb. 13, POSTECH is holding its Commencement Ceremony for the 2014 Academic Year at the POSTECH Gymnasium starting from 11 A.M. This year, there are a total of 729 students graduating, including 266 B.S., 204 M.S., and 259 Ph.D. students. The ceremony proceeds with the pledge of allegiance and the national anthem. The program follows with the Dean of Academic Affairs giving a report on academic affairs, President’s commencement address to the graduates, congratulatory song titled “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”, and conferral of degrees. Afterwards, the honors and awards are given out.
Hyunsun Seo (MSE 10) is honored as the valedictorian for the graduating class of 2014 for both engineering and natural sciences with the GPA of 4.16/4.33, and Lee Wanki (MATH 11) is honored as the valedictorian in the field of natural sciences with the GPA of 4.15/4.33. The “Sung-Kee Chung Thesis Paper Award” for natural science is given to Kim Dohyeong (Mathematics of Quantum Field Theory  in Center for Geometry and Physics, Post Doc.) for writing the thesis paper, “Automorphic forms and Iwasawa theory”.
The “Chang Kun Soo Thesis Paper Award” for engineering is given to Han Taehee (MSE, Ph.D. integrated.) for the thesis paper, “Flexible Organic Light-Emitting Diodes with Graphene Anode”.
Lastly, the Hogil Kim Medal (aka. Mueunjae Award), which is given to the student who has contributed to the university’s development through diverse student activities or community service, is given to Nam Hanjae (MSE 11). He is honored with this award for the activity as the President of POSTECH Undergraduate Association, and for receiving two patents.
The ceremony ends with the valedictorians’ addresses, university anthem and closing remarks. After the Commencement Ceremony for the academic year 2014, a luncheon is held at the POSCO International Center.
