From Nov. 1-2, Residential College (RC) students went to Andong as part of a regular RC program. They went to places like Hahoe Folk Village, Dosanseowon, House of Korean Culture, and so on. Hahoe Folk Village is known as a traditional village from the Joseon Dynasty. It is also a very important site since it was listed by the South Korean government with UNESCO as a world heritage site with Yangdong Folk Village in 2010. Furthermore, RC students had Korean traditional food like Andong-style braised spicy chicken with vegetables and dduck bulgogi. The Postech Times interviewed two people from this program. Bongjun Hyun (ME 12), the director of this program, said the most impressive site for him was Dosanseowon, which was founded in 1574 by the students of the great Korean neo-Confucian scholar Yi Hwang to honor their departed teacher. He said that he could see the whole Hahoe Folk Village and thought it would be nice to study in such a place where the air and viewpoints are very nice. A participant, Jina Jeong (Undeclared 14), said that she got to know more about Korean heritage by walking through the houses of predecessors. Also, she was inspired by their passion to learn something in various kinds of Seowon and wanted to model herself after them. At the end, she said Andong was the best place she had visited in her life.
