Graphene, called the material of dreams, is stronger than steel and has high electrical conductivity. However, it cannot control a state of electron energy, which limits its usefulness in semiconductor devices. Graphene nanaribbon can solve this problem but production was difficult because of the time required and lack of technology. The research team successfully created a graphene nanoribbon that has nine nanometer size using silicon substrate, nano wire, and oxygen plasma.
Thanks to this technology, it will be possible to make a graphene nanoribbon in any location and of any length. It can be used in flexible displays and wearable computers, industries with markets that will grow up to 50 trillion KRW by 2020.
