The Undergraduate Research Program (URP), which aims to boost POSTECH undergraduates’ research capacity as well as creativity and competitive spirit, is seen as a perfect example of mutual cooperation between universities and firms as local firms continue to support this program.
Since 2000, POSTECH has been promoting research activities via URP, financially assisting over five million KRW as research funds in 40~60 projects or as scholarships. At a relatively young age, selected individuals are exposed to research environments, in which they pick up specific techniques and experience respective fields in action. Excellent research outputs have been issued in both national and international journals and often qualified for patent application.
To support this program, POSTECH and local firms began the campaign, ?ne firm on student sponsorship campaign.” The Pohang Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as Pohang Iron and Steel Industrial Complex (PHSIC) and other firms such as Chosun Refractories participate in this campaign. Fresh and creative ideas from students may be adopted by various firms which will in turn provide mentorship to these individuals to develop entrepreneurship as well as expert thinking skills and creativity.
“I feel it is worthwhile to assist outstanding individuals who will lead Korea in the future” said the CEO of PHSIC who also highlighted that developing a mutual relationship between POSTECH and firms in Pohang will be meaningful.
