In order to enact a creative economy in Pohang, the Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Lee Byung Suk, and POSTECH decided to join hands.
On Mar. 12, President Yongmin Kim and Vice-Speaker Lee Byung Suk held a meeting to discuss how this project is to be operated. They agreed that for the future of Pohang, the cooperation system needs to be based on the people, politics, education, and industry. Moreover, they decided to put effort into creating a cooperative model in which all social classes can participate.
On this spot, Vice-Speaker Lee Byung Suk showed his determination to effectively lead the creation of a regional creative economy by providing continuous interest and support of the central government. Furthermore, he said, “If POSCO has led the industrialization last century, POSTECH, with its global R&D characteristic, should be the one to lead the creative economy. For the creation of scientific technique based industries, and the development of hidden champions (relatively small but highly successful companies that are concealed), the society needs POSTECH’s help.”
While Vice-Speaker Lee Byung Suk showed his support and role for the creation of a creative economy, he also requested POSTECH to take a leading role so that Pohang can become a stronger economy.
