2014 POSTECH Matriculation Ceremony

On Feb. 28, the 2014 POSTECH Matri- culation Ceremony was held in the Auditorium at 11 A.M. This ceremony marked the start of a new year in POSTECH, welcoming those from all over the world to become part of the POSTECH community. A total of 788 new students including 321 B.A., 107 M.S., 78 Ph.D., and 282 M.S.-Ph.D. integrated program candidates matriculated. Though the ceremony officially began at 11 A.M., in preparation before the ceremony, new Postechians and professors wore ceremonial clothing and had entered the auditorium in an orderly fashion. The start of the ceremony was marked with the pledge of allegiance and singing of the national anthem. Afterwards the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Professor Yun Sung Choi (MATH) gave a report on the academic affairs, and Yu yemin (Undeclared 14) proclaimed the freshmen oath. As President Yongmin Kim gave the Matriculation Address, he advised Postechians to ?rystallize your goals and relentlessly push yourself toward growth so that you can build a strong foundation for true success and make meaningful contributions in the next couple of decades? Dr. Hong-June You, the most renowned and distinguished Korean art historian, gave a special lecture, ?equirements for Masterpieces and Craftsmanship.?The first Domun Scholarship was given to Kim Hoon (PHYS 13) for his excellence in academic achievement. The ceremony ended at approximately 12 P.M., and the newcomers rejoiced by congratulating each other and proudly taking photos in front of the Auditorium. After the 2014 POSTECH Matriculation Ceremony, there was also an orientation session for parents, staring from 1:30 P.M. In this session, topics such as students?life on campus, scholarship, POSTECH’s vision and development were covered. To help parents and visitors who attended the Matriculation Ceremony, the school provided a shuttle bus from and to Shin Gyeong-Ju Station.
