Professor Kim Yoon-Ho’s (PHYS) research team and Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freib-urg’s (German) team discovered a new area between quan- tum mechanics and classical mechanics through a quantum interference experiment. Quantum interference gives difference between quantum and classical mechanics as a characteristic for particles like electrons, molecules, and atoms to represent waves.
Classical mechanics is about what we can see with our eyes, expressed with velocity, time, and distance. However, particles, which are so small that we cannot know momentum nor position of those simultaneously have uncertainty, are the focus of quantum mechanics. Quantum mechanics explains that particles have wave and spread throughout space.
By now on, the medium area between two mechanics is considered to be represented by two mechanics because discovery of materials increases or decreases contin- uously as particles transfer from quantum to classic. In contrast, the research team observed that a nonmonotonic phenomenon appears during the transition of four photons.
