On Jan. 14, the Institute of Basic Science announced that Professor Hee Cheul Choi (CHEM), the group leader of the research under the Center for Artifi- cial Low Dimensional Electronic Systems, and his team had successfully come up with various synthesis techniques for two dimensional Molybden disulphide (MoS2), a semiconductor device believed to be the best substitute for graphene by using gold as a catalyst.
This research clearly shows that MoS2 could be synthesized into a final product with specific size and geometric form, which in turn could be manufactured as a semiconductor device. It is predicted to be widely used in the semiconductor industry, especially in products involving refraction and transparency of electronic devices.
Owing to the fact that MoS2 is a layered semiconductor material, it is structurally similar to graphene, but the former can be used to make solar batteries, flexible displays, and transparent electronic devices, unlike graphene, which is a conductor. MoS2, as a result of these advantages, is now seen as the best substitute among scientists.
