Professor Kim, Byung-In (IME) was nominated as the co-recipient of the Hyun Woo Management Science Award.
Prof. Kim developed optimization techniques (including mathematical programming methods, Meta heuristic method) and applied them to solve a variety of practical industrial problems, such as the vehicle driving path problem. Prof. Kim also suggested a generalized simulation model that can significantly shorten time required to develop any simulation model. He also developed POSTECH Internet-based Outpatient Simulator and made it free of charge for anyone to use.
The HyunWooManagement Science Award is annually awarded to the scholar who has done a magnificent work in the field of Operations Research & Management Sciences. The award ceremony was held in Ewha Woman’s University on Nov. 2. Prof. Kim used the prize money to establish a development fund for the department of Industrial & Management Engineering.
