POSTECH Ranks 60th in the THE World University Rankings 2013-2014
POSTECH ranked first on the overall score of the ‘2013 National University Ranking’ conducted by JoongAng Daily. POSTECH won back first place after five years. KAIST was relegated to second place and Seongkyunkwan University (SKKU) ranked third place. Korea University ranked fourth and SNU and Yonsei University were joint fifth place. JoongAng Daily surveyed and evaluated 100 Korean universities based on 31 indicators from Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS), National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), such as research, condition of education, reputation, and globalization. JoongAng Daily has conducted the ‘National University Ranking’ since 1994.
In addition, POSTECH has once again shown that it is a world-class university by ranking 60th in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2013-2014. The data was released online on Oct. 2. SNU and KAIST ranked 44th and 56th respectively. The methodology for the 2013-2014 World University Rankings is identical to that used since 2011-2012, offering a year-on-year comparison based on true performance rather than methodological change. Universities are judged by five core missions: teaching, research, citation, industry income, and international outlook.
Compared to last year, POSTECH earned a lower score in citation (from 88.2 to 85.7), teaching (63.9 to 49.0), and research (63.9 to 54.2), but a higher score in international outlook (28.8 to 33.8). The industry income score stayed the same (100). With an overall score of 61.7, POSTECH was listed as 60th among world universities.
