CAMPUS: POSTECH & KAIST Science War

Remember Postechians’ Beads of Sweat in Camp Training of Athlete Clubs

During summer vacation, most students leave POSTECH. However, POSTECH is crowded against expectation. The reason is that some students who belong to athlete clubs (soccer, baseball, and basketball) have a camp training for POSTECH & KAIST Science War. Postechians truly showed their passion for the competition through beads of sweat.
Firstly, KAISER, the soccer club that participates in the science war, held a camp for training from the months of Aug. to Sep. Under the hot sun (from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M.), about 30 students underwent physical and basic tactical training. Gang Byung Soo, who has been in charge of the club as a coach for more than 10 years, instructed students until they were able to perform high-quality organized soccer play. Additionally, 3 graduate students who once belonged to the club as undergraduate students participated in this training as players. In this way, the camp training of athletic clubs became an event in which many Postechians, including even alumni, interacted with each other beyond just training for the competition.
Secondly, POBBA, the basketball club of POSTECH, had a camp training for 3 weeks in Aug. Members of POBBA participated in the exercise at the gymnasium three times a day, from 8:30 A.M.-11:30 A.M., 3:30 P.M.-6 P.M., and 7 P.M.-10 P.M.  Though only for 3 weeks, POBBA members’ accomplished this hard training for a win at the competition.
Finally, TACHYONS, the baseball club of POSTECH, also tried very hard to achieve a good result at the competition. They basically had training from 12 P.M. to 4 P.M. If the weather was too hot or raining in the daytime, they practiced in the morning from 6 A.M. to 9 A.M. About 20 students participated in the camp training. The number of members was less than what the club would have liked, but they performed the training and formed a complete entry for the game.
The chairman of KAISER, Lee Taek Ho (IME 11) said, “We performed a hard camp training during the two months of Aug. and Sep. Some people who had originally tried to take time off or had already graduated from school participated in this training. I hope that people give a big hand to all members of KAISER. Moreover, I am glad we could finish our training with a victory.”
The Postech Times asked the chairmen of those clubs if there is something that they want from POSTECH or any problem they encountered while running camp training during the vacation. Han Ki Duk (CE 11), the chairman of POBBA, stated, “We didn’t have big problems during the camp training, but when it rains, the floor of the gymnasium is so slippery that players are likely to get injured. I think that when the weather is so humid, it will be very helpful if air conditioners in the gym work.” Lee Cheol Hun(CE 11), the chairman of TACHYONS, added, “During summer vacation, many athletic clubs stay in the university for training. It was inconvenient that there was not enough time to practice in the stadium. In addition, I envied the baseball club of KAIST, which was able to use the stadium as a ballpark and practice for a longer time. Also, the game progress of the competition on the sports day was inconvenient. Usually, space at the first base is given to an away team, but this time KAIST offered the space of futsal field at the third base and we couldn’t find anywhere to report this inconvenience.”
