POSCO held the “25th POSCO Family Annual Conference on Technology” at POSTECH on Aug. 25-26.
The conference is the biggest annual festival for technology sharing, which is launched in 1989 in order to encourage POSCO Family engineers and promote steel technology development desire.
Focusing on steel industry, approximately 2,000 attendees, including POSCO Family, domestic universities, research facilities, and supplying companies, debated on future-oriented technologies such as materials, energy, engineering, and IT convergence technology. At this conference, 262 papers in total were presented in 29 sessions. Since the first conference, the total number of presented papers runs into 6,179.
At the opening speech, Chung Joonyang (CEO, POSCO) emphasized importance of exclusive technological capability. Thereafter, special lectures and the ‘POSCO Family Technology Award’ followed.
Deputy General Manager Dong Rong Hua of China’s Chongqing Iron & Steel Group delivered a keynote speech about the topic, “China’s Steel Industry Development Prospect and Next Generation Integrated Steelworks Plan.” Following, in session lectures, 29 experts from Korea and abroad including KAIST professor Lee, Ji-Hwan, who presented about success/fail examples of new emerging businesses of other steel companies and advanced corporations, participated in invitational debates on steel and non-steel fields.
Meanwhile, at the ‘POSCO Family Technology Award’, POSCO awarded those who achieved excellent research results that contributed to the development of POSCO’s unique technologies.
Also, on Aug. 19, POSCO and family company officers took part in the “POSCO Family Technology Officer Debate”, for planning to increase success rate of commercializing emerging technologies.
