POSTECH confirmed itself as a world class university once again. POSTECH was ranked fifth in the first Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2013, taking first place among Korean universities. The data was released online on Apr. 10. POSTECH was ranked number one in the first Times Higher Education ranking of the 100 best universities under the age of 50 last year.
The Times Higher Education (THE) is one of the mostrecognized ranking systems in the world, and it is powered by Thomson Reuters. POSTECH was placed fifth, following University of Tokyo (1st), National University of Singapore (2nd), The University of Hong Kong (3rd), and Peking University (4th).
The Asia University Rankings were based on the same criteria as THE World University Rankings. The ranking was set by relative evaluation in five categories: Teaching (30%), Research (30%), Citations (30%), Industry income (2.5%), and International outlook (7.5%). POSTECH received high praise in Teaching, Research, Citations, and Industry income. POSTECH was ranked second in Citations, with a score of 88.2, and received a perfect score of 100 in Industry income.
Additionally, Tsinghua University (6th), Kyoto University (7th), SNU (8th), and KAIST (10th) made the top 10 list. Thus, Korea had the three universities in the top ten. Also, other Korean universities including Yonsei University (20th), Sungkyunkwan University (23rd), and Korea University (28th) earned high evaluations.
Phil Baty, the editor of the Times Higher Education, evaluated, “POSTECH’s research capability is great enough to represent Asian universities.” The world university rankings have consistently proved that POSTECH has set sail to a correct seaway.
