President Park Jongwon of Korea National University of Arts (KNUA), which is considered the best art education institute in Korea, met POSTECH students through a special lecture titled “Do Science and Art Have Different dreams?” in an international conference room of the POSCO International Center on Apr. 18.
Through this lecture, held as the part of the POSTECH cultural program, KNUA President Park emphasized that science and technology are not opposing but reciprocal. They make each other perfect. As an artist and educator of art, he wanted to give message that scientists and artists might have same aim.
Since establishing an academic tie with KNUA in 2008, POSTECH and KNUA have actively cooperated through programs, including a student exchange program and offering courses at the sister university. This lecture also stemmed from that tie and was delivered to rouse Postechians’ interest and motivation concerning art.
KNUA President Park is a famous movie director. He directed “Our Twisted Hero” and “The Eternal Empire”, which won the award for best picture and award for best direction at DaeJong Film Festival. He was appointed as president of KNUA in 2009.
