Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited POSTECH to benchmark a successful case of a world leading university on Apr. 13. She is the second daughter of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, an executive of Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT), a Thai state-owned oil and gas company.
As Princess Sirindhorn directs the national education policies and science and technology information policies of Thailand and PTT has been establishing Rayong Institute of Science and Technology, this visit was appropriate in that POSTECH was founded and managed by POSCO, which is highly acclaimed at home and abroad as one of the world’s largest corporations. The delegation of PTT has visited POSTECH four times since 2011.
The group of visitors exchanged opinions with representatives of POSTECH, including President Yongmin Kim, on successful management of university and cooperation between industry and educational organizations. In addition, they toured the education facilities, including the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL).
Princess Sirindhorn emphasized, “to develop into a world leading university is an inevitable task for Thailand to take a leap forward. Especially, I think that the experiences of Korea, where corporations have contributed to foster talented people, is the model we need. We will apply know-how and driving force of POSTECH in founding a university specialized in science and technology.”
