Professor Moon Jeong Park (CHEM) was awarded “Young Scientist Award for 2013”. The award is administered by The Polymer Society of Korea and sponsored by John Wiley & Sons, which is a global academic publisher. The academy gives great budding scientists the award to facilitate research activities of polymer field.
Prof. Park developed a polymer material with an improved rate of transporting ions by inducing the formation of various nanostructures and materializing the nanometer-sized ion channel of the polymer material. Prof. Park was chosen as the winner for promoting the growth of energy nanomaterial by using a polymer material.
Prof Park and her research group already have good history of developing nanostructure that prevents carbon dioxide poisoning by not using water. They developed the polymer material that outperforms Nafion, which is still used, in terms of conductivity in high temperatures (over 165°C). They also lowered the cost of production to one-tenth that of producing Nafion.
The Polymer Academy held a spring general meeting for two days on Apr.12 and 13. The award ceremony was part of that meeting.
