Yongjin Kim (CSE Ph.D., advisor Prof. Seungyong Lee), a member of the CG Lab (Computer Graphics Laboratory), was sele- cted as a recipient of gold prize in the 19th Samsung Human Tech Paper Award.
Samsung Human Tech Paper Award was established by Samsung Electronics in 1994 to discover a creative young scientist and to vitalize the research atmosphere in universities. The 19th ceremony is hosted by Samsung Electronics and sponsored by MEST (Ministry of Education and Science Technology) and JoongAngIlbo. It was held in Samsung Seocho Building, Seoul, on Apr. 5.
In his award-winning paper titled “WYSIWYG Stereo Painting”, Dr. Kim presented a stereo painting system, which can create effectively high-quality stereo artwork with Photoshop. A stereo layer, a key concept of his system, eliminates the need for completely formed representational 3D geometry, which most existing 3D painting systems require. Using the stereo layer, his system simplifies the process of painting stereo artwork. The paper examiners evaluated his paper as “outstandingly creative and of high practical value.”
