By Apr. 19, all of the cigarette vending machines located at the Administration Bldg., Student Union, School of Environmental Science & Engineering, and Chemical Engineering Laboratories Bldg. are to be removed. According to the National Health Promotion Act, Article 9 Section 2, and Article 15 Enforcement Regulations, smoking in public areas is banned, and cigarette vending machines must only be located near smoking rooms. Some other laws that dictate the entire campus of POSTECH to be smoke-free are 1) Primary & Secondary Education Act and Higher Education Act, 2) National Health Promotion Act, Article 7, 3) National Promotion Act, Article 9, 4) National Health Promotion Act, Article 34, and 5) Enforcement Regulations of National Health Promotion Act, Article 6. Although the cigarette vending machines are to be removed, and cooperation for a smoke-free campus is requested, cigarettes are still available at the convenience stores. Smoking in non-smoking areas may result in penalties up to 3,000,000 KRW.
