A social networking service (SNS) is an online service, platform, or site that focuses on facilitating the building of social networks or social relations among people who, for example, share interests, activities, backgrounds, or real-life connections. An SNS consists of a representation of each user, his/her social links, and a variety of additional services. SNSs have been developed and expanded upon simple communication. The new era of SNS has come. Below are a few SNSs you may not be aware of.

Mironi
“Mironi enhances your music experience by sharing inspiration with friends.” Mironi is a music player based on SNS: while listening to your favorite music, you can share your ideas with friends. Mironi player provides useful information about the currently playing song such as album jackets and lyrics. Using Mironi’s social function, you can also share thoughts and experiences about music through external SNS, including Facebook and Twitter, for broad aspect of response from your followers and friends. Mironi was developed by JJS Media, a Korean startup founded in December last year by entrepreneur Lee Jae-seok. Over 40 thousands music lovers in 40 countries are using Mironi.

Airbnb
Airbnb is an SNS that provides a platform for individuals referred to as “hosts,” generally private parties, to rent unoccupied living space and other short-term lodging to guests. As of November 2012, the company had over 250,000 listings in 30,000 cities and 192 countries. Listings include private rooms, entire apartments, castles, boats, manors, tree houses, tipis, igloos, private islands, and other properties. Users of the site must register and create a personal online profile before using the site. All properties are associated with a host whose profile includes recommendations by other users, reviews by previous guests, as well as a response rating and private messaging system.

Pinterest
Pinterest allows member to “Pin” images, videos, and other objects on its Pin boards. It was launched in December 2009. The site was founded by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra, and Evan Sharp. It is managed by Cold Brew Labs and funded by a small group of entrepreneurs and inventors. This is a beautiful and creative idea that lets users share contents with other users in an organized way by creating boards of different categories. Users can browse other pinboards for inspiration, ‘re-pin’ images to their own pinboards, or ‘like’ photos. Additionally, users can also access pin boards for others users too and get to know about new ideas from people with whom they share common interests. In February 2013, Reuters and ComScore stated that Pinterest had 48.7 million users.
