New and Powerful Steps in POSTECH
On Mar. 4 at 11 A.M. in the Auditorium, the 2013 Matriculation Ceremony marked the beginning of a fresh, new academic year for POSTECH, the first-ranked university in “The Times Higher Education 100 under 50” category. The ceremony welcomed and honored 847 students including 322 B.A., 160 M.S., 72 Ph.D., and 293 M.S.-Ph.D. integrative program candidates. In preparation before the ceremony, newcomers and professors wore ceremonial clothing and entered the auditorium in order. With the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem under the baton of Kim Youngsuk (CHEM 11), the ceremony proceeded with the report on academic affairs by Dean of Academic Affairs, Prof. In-Beum Lee (CE), the freshman oath by Park Jong-hyun (EE 13), and the Matriculation Address by President Yongmin Kim. President Kim emphasized,“POSTECH has rapidly propelled itself to international prominence.     Although we are very proud of our past achievements, we need to move on towards the next level of excellence rather than resting on our laurels. In this vein, I would like to draw your attention to the importance of service as you embark on your college life. The faculty and staff of POSTECH including myself have a moral and professional obligation and privilege to properly nurture you into somebody who will have all the potential to become a world-class scientist and engineer, leading the 21st century and creating a better future.” Ung-hyeon Park, executive creative director, delighted the participants with congratulatory address and lecture. He mentioned,“to see the unseen is most important. we need to be immersed in everything and collect various ideas. Every man is the maker of his own future.”
After the ceremony, freshmen, guests, President, and executive officers took their picture in front of the Auditorium. The Luncheon and orientation session for parents of freshmen took place in the POSCO International Center after noon.
