The retirement ceremony and professor emeritus appointment for Professor Sung Pyo Hong (MATH) was held at 5:30 P.M. on Feb.18 in POSCO International Center. President Yongmin Kim, executives, professors of the Department of Mathematics, and other guests were invited.
Prof. Hong had filled various academic posts such as the head professor of the Department of Mathematics (1996-1998, 2003-2005) and the head of Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) (2008-2012). He also received “The Proud Postechian Award” in 2011.
Meanwhile, the retirement ceremony for Prof. Kyoo Young Kim (MSE, GIFT) and Prof. Yasushi Sasaki (GIFT), and professor emeritus appointment for Prof. Kim took place at 4:30 P.M. on Feb. 22 in the GIFT Auditorium. Former President Sunggi Baik, executives, professors, and many students came to celebrate.
Prof. Kim had established Graduate Institute of Ferrous Technology (GIFT) and served as the first director of the institute (1994-2000). He was the head professor of the Materials Science Engineering (2000-2003), and has been the director of Pohang Institute of Metal Industry Advancement (POMIA) since 2007. Prof. Yasushi Sasaki has been researched in Environmental Metallurgy laboratory in GIFT since 2007.
Prof. Jai Sam Kim (PHYS) was retired and was appointed as professor emeritus. Prof. Kim helped to popularize theoretical and computational physics and participated in IUPAP (International Union of Pure and Applied Physics) Conference as the representative of The Korean Physical Society (KPS) in 2005 and 2011.
