2012 POSTECH Commencement Ceremony

The 2012 POSTECH Commencement Ceremony takes place at 11 A.M. on Feb. 15 in the POSTECH Gymnasium. Special guests such as President Yongmin Kim, Chairman of the Board Joon-yang Chung, and other dignified guests are invited to congratulate 702 graduates on this honorable day.
The student procession starts at 10:40 A.M., and the main ceremony begins at 11 A.M., and will proceed in the following order: the pledge of allegiance, report on academic affairs, commencement address by the President, complimentary address by the chairman of the board, conferral of degrees, honors and awards, student address, and the singing of the alma mater. Following the ceremony is the reception starting at 12:40 P.M. at the POSCO International Center.
At the 2012 Commencement Ceremony,  the 24th commencement, 286 B.S., 192 M.S., 89 Ph.D., and 135 M.S-Ph.D integrated students will receive degrees (including those who graduated in August 2012).
The honor of B.S. valedictorian goes to Shim Jihyun (LIFE 09) whose GPA is 4.18. The Mueunjae Award, for the B.S. graduate who contributed to the university’s development or raising its reputation, will be awarded to Eun-uk Lee (CE 09) for inventing the HangulBot, a robot that can produce sounds of Korean by combining blocks of vowels and consonants.
Two more awards, the “Sung-Kee Chung Thesis Paper Award” for natural science and the “Chang Kun Soo Thesis Paper Award” for engineering will be given to Kim Sangwoo (LIFE 08) and Shim Jin-Hyung (ME 08) respectively. Kim published his paper in Proceeding of the National Academy of Science of the United States of America, with “At ABCA9 transporter supplies fatty acids for lipid synthesis to the endoplasmic reticulum” and Shim published his paper in Advanced Functional Materials, with “Solid Free-Form Fabrication of Tissue-Engineering Scaffolds with a Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) Grafted Hyaluronic Acid Conjugate Encapsulating an Intact Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2 / Poly (ethylene glycol) Complex.”
