I pray 2013 will be happy for all members of POSTECH. Our university, which is 25 years old, has lived childhood successfully in uneasy conditions, and now meets boyhood. Based on steadily run success of past 25 years, it is time to decide to apply ourselves even more diligently to solidify the status of POSTECH. We have to make brand value of POSTECH to be the leading university universally, beyond the top national university. To achieve our great goal, the bottom line is that we need to think of small works that each of us can do. The situation of POSTECH will likely become more complicated. Some factors of conflict might pile up, because we have to develop POSTECH under the tighter financial pressure. Millions of businesses are on the waiting list, such as constructing the institute for Basic Science, the 4th generation light source, X-ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL), the Integrated Research Building. Of course, these businesses have conflicts as well. Factor of conflict will increase, like contracting with sanitation workers. The only way to solve these kinds of problems is to put ourselves in other people’s shoes and consider what allows all POSTECH members to be as happy as possible. Professors and staff should consider students’ standpoint. Likewise, students should consider the viewpoint of professors and staff. It is not too much to say that small considerations, such as holding a door for following persons or keeping a space empty in a parking lot for the people with a disability, to each other makes us happy. Last but not least, if we are faithful to our mission, it will be a huge advantage for the development of POSTECH, and our lives will develop naturally.
