Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL) hosted the 24th Synchrotron Radiation User’s Workshop in the POSCO International Center on Nov. 22. About 220 domestic and foreign experts, including Professor Sang-Koog Kim of Seoul National University and Dr. Motohiro Suzuki of RIKEN Spring-8-Center in Japan attended. There were 72 presentations and 123 poster publications during the workshop.

As a special session, the amount of processed construction of Rare Isotope Accelerator in Korea, the way to research Rare Isotope Accelerator, and the areas in which Rare Isotope Accelerator can be applied were introduced. Also, some excellent international research results about Time-Resolved Spectroscopy and Structural Dynamics were announced in the workshop.
During the prize awarding event, Professor Moonhor Ree(CHEM) received the Simgye Science Award.  This award was created on Dec. 2001 to applaud the achievement of Dr. Tong-Nyong Lee, who was the first director of PAL, and is given annually to researchers who achieve a significant outcome using Pohang Light Source (PLS) annually. Prof. Ree was recognized for developing PLS by publicizing about 60 research papers in five years and inventing grazing incidence small angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS).
Director of PAL, Moohyun Cho, mentioned that the number of presentations increased 30% this year in the workshop and the improved version of PLS had augmented great and various research results.
