Professor Oh Young-Geun and Prof. Young Ju Choie were selected as Fellows of the American Mathematical Society (AMS) Fellows. Over 1000 mathematical scientists from around the world have been named Fellows of the AMS for 2013.
Five Korean mathematicians, including two POSTECH professors, were chosen as Fellows of the AMS this year. The Fellows Program was created this year to recognize members who have significantly contributed to the creation, exhibition, progression, communication, and utilization of mathematics. The list of the Fellows was published online on Nov. 1.
Prof. Oh is recognized internationally in the field of geometry. He gave a special lecture on ?ympletic Topology and Floer Homology?in the International Congress of Mathmaticians (ICM). His lecture marked the first time a Korean mathematician addressed the ICM.
Prof. Choie is renowned in the area of number theory and contributed greatly to research about IT and safety. She also hosted the Mathematic Cryptology International Conference the first time it was held in Korea.
