Transformation of Yoghurt Bottle, Stem Cell?

Professor Dong Sung Kim (ME) and Prof. Dong-Woo Cho (ME) from POSTECH, Prof. Soo-Hong Lee from CHA University, and two doctorates discovered a new way to use polystyrene to control the differentiation of stem cells. Polystyrene is a material used for yoghurt bottles and cases of electronic devices. Stem cells are the unique cells that can develop into various types of cells in our body. The research team demonstrated that polystyrene can mass produce the unique circuit board which can manage differen-tiation of stem cells. The results were posted in the November issue of the renowned Macromolecular Bioscience as an inside front cover feature. This finding is expected to make stem cell research more economically efficient. Prof. Kim mentioned that proficient research on stem cells and tissue engineering will be possible through the result of the study. He is preparing to commercialize the technique.
