A lecture by Professor Chang Oh Kang (GIFT) was given at the GIFT Auditorium on Oct. 30. Fini- shing his work as a GIFT POSCO Technology Inno-vation chair pro-fessor, he gave a fruitful lecture titled “Development of Iron & Steel Making Process Technology.”
He introduced how iron industry was started and developed. As China is building up conveniences for mass production in the 21st Century, raw materials (such as ores and coking coals) for making iron are in shortage. Therefore, POSCO developed the FINEX process to solve these problems.
Prof. Kang presented FINEX’s ability, capital cost, operation cost, product quality, and eco-friendliness. Additionally, he gave new concepts of an innovative, integrated steel making process which will be introduced in the future.
