Complete Disassembling Method of TCDD
Professor Chang, Yoon-Seok in the School of Environment Science and Engi-neering succeeded in finding new hybrid treatment which can dissociate 2,3,7,8-tetrachl- orodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) completely. TCDD is known as the most dangerous dioxin, ten-thousand times more toxic than potassium cyanide. Prof. Chang used iron-palladium catalyst and a dioxin disassembling germ from soil. First, he removed the chlorine in the dioxin by using iron palladium. Then, he inserted a dissociating microorganism to dismantle TCDD. This treatment combined both nano-technology and biotechnology. The former method could only disassemble 80% of 4.5 ng/mL TCDD in 20 hours; however, the new skill can detach 9.3 ng/mL TCDD completely in 15 hours. The re-search result was posted through online prompt report in Science of the Total Environment, an authoritative magazine in the environment science field on Aug. 19.
