Professor Hyung Joon Cha (CE) and his research team developed a carbo- hydrate chip that can detect the pois-onous substance of cholera.
Prof. Cha had unique views on the infection process. Believing that poison of cholera and carbohydrates on the surface of a cell interact with each other, he succeeded in analyzing and detecting cholera by developing a technology that fixes carbohydrate on the chip. It is a brea-kthrough technology that overcomes existing limitations in reproducibility and stability. In addition, this could detect cholera at low toxin concentration.
He emphasized, “This research was expected to be applied in ecology of marine and land, food engineering, and clinics. To be concrete, we can use this technology in analyzing environment, diagnosing diseases, and producing new medications.”
