The chairman of POSTECH has appointed Prof. Chong Soo Lee as the next Dean of Graduate Institute of Ferrous Technology (GIFT). Upon the completion of Nack Joon Kim’s term as the previous dean, Lee assumed the position, starting on April 1, 2012.
Prof. Lee received his master’s degree in 1981 from SNU and doctor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1984 from Polytechnic Institute of New York, USA. He has been with POSTECH since the very beginning in 1987 and has contributed to the establishment of MSE and served POSTECH with planning, international cooperation, and academy-industry collab- oration. He has been an international leader in plasticity technology, and his Fatigue and Plasticity Laboratory was chosen as a National Research Lab. He is not unfamiliar with GIFT because he has taken an active role in planning and research, and  contributed greatly to GIFT’s research enhancement and specialization.
President Yongmin Kim emphasized, “I believe that Professor Lee is exceptionally well qualified to lead GIFT with his expertise, experience, enthusiasm, vision, and record of success. I am confident that with POSTECH members’ wholehearted support, Professor Lee should be able to make significant contributions and enhancements in education, research, services, and management to lead GIFT to the next level of excellence.”
