The former President Sunggi Baik of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering received the Sungok Award. The 2011 award recognizes Prof. Baik’s influential research finding as well as his contribution to the advance of domestic material science as the president of the Korean Ceramic Society in 2009, and a member of World Academy of Ceramics.

The Sungok award is named in honor of honorary president Lee Hun-dong of Chosun Refractories co. and sponsored by the Korean Ceramic Society. It carefully selects outstanding researchers, researching groups, and those who greatly contribute more than 10 years to the development of domestic ceramic industry.

The award was presented at the 2011 Fall Meeting of the Korean Ceramic Society on Oct. 24 at the Kimdaejung Convention Center in Gwangju.
