A Diwali festival was hosted by Prashant Kumar, an Indian student at POSTECH on Oct. 29 at 7:30 P.M. It took place in room 306 in Hongil Kim’s Memorial Hall and about 80 people participated in the event, including many ethnicities in addition to Indians and Pakistanis.

Diwali (also called Deepavali) is a crucial religious festival of Hindus and is also renowned as ‘Festival of Light.’ People normally hold it between mid-October and mid-November and it was celebrated on Oct. 26 in 2011. They rejoice at defeat of evil from good by lifting light over the darkness.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Indian women sang two traditional Indian songs in order to have worship before the start of celebration. After an opening speech, six children and three adults showed their talent by singing or dancing and people enjoyed solving some quizzes related to Diwali and getting a prize. At the end of the event, people had many dishes of traditional Indian food in the Student Union.
