Prof. Sei-Kwang Han, who researches biomedical nanomaterials in the materials science and engineering department, developed a new nano medicine transfer system for liver ailment. This new system is unique because it can convey medicine in a way which allows for a cure to  particular liver tissues which were infected.

The medicine system was made by Prof. Sei-kwang Han and Ph.D Min-young Lee. Additionally, the POSTECH research team undertook a joint research with Seung-kyu Yoon who is professor of Catholic Medical University.

They have developed new medicine for hepatitis C by inosculate hyaluronic acid and interferon alpha which was the original medicine for hepatitis C. This new medicine also did well with animal testing. The medicine was conveyed accurately to infected tissue of liver and made useful proteins which can repress the liver disorder.

Supporting this research was ‘new convergence technology enterprise of growth engine’ allowing the research team to perform this study with the support of the ministry of education, science and technology. Also, these innovative results were published in academic journals including ACS Nano and Biomaterials.
