By contributing to the development of supplying the research method of new materials, Prof. Lee-Byeong-joo received the best thesis award by the international CALPHAD (computer coupling of phase diagrams and thermochemistry). This Institute, which has a 30- year-long history, announced that the thesis of Prof. Lee Byeong-joo was the best among the strongest printed papers published in 2010.

His paper entitled, ‘The modified embedded-atom method interatomic potentials and recent progress in atomistic simulations’ introduced a self-developed 2NN MEAN atomic potential development situation and code source for atomic simulation. The thesis also contributed to developing the method of new materials.

Every year the Institute selects the best paper to be awarded as a prize. The Institute has dealt with computational thermodynamics, for example, they have built a thermodynamics database, which is essential for the material industry.
